Crocheted Flowers Pattern
December 14, 2006

Sorry Angie. I had planned to take some pics to go with this before posting. But it would be ages before that happens, being the protracted procrastinator that I am. So here goes. Easy Peasy!
Chain (17,35,53) (S,M,L)
I chained 53 for all flowers and used an acrylic worsted weight yarn. I tried it with a thinner yarn but it didn’t hold the shape very well.
ROW 1
Dc in 5th chain from hook, *ch 1, skip 1, (dc-ch-dc) in next ch (V stitch made)
Repeat from * across to end. Turn.
ROW 2
Ch 3 (counts as dc) 5 dc in ch space, * sc in next ch-1 space, 6 dc in next ch-1 space (shell stitch made)
Repeat from *, ending in 6 dc in last ch-1 space. Fasten off but leave a good long tail for anchoring the flower. I left a good 10 inches for large flowers.
FINISHING
Thread needle with tail and weave to base of last stitch. Starting at that end, roll the first shell tightly to form the center bud. Stitch this one tightly as it tends to want to open up otherwise. Then it looks pretty silly. Keep rolling and stitching as you see fit. I like the way the blue flower looks. It’s huge! It measures approximately 4 inches in diameter. I rolled it quite loosely after the center bud so it lays pretty flat. The others are, shall we say, a bit chunkier!
Crochet Flower Brooches
December 6, 2006
Hello everyone. I’ve been so busy trying to get over a cold and trying to keep sane that the days have flown by. I’ve been particularly busy practising the theory test for my test on the 15th. Yikes. And to be honest, I’ve been really lazy. As I learned in an American History class in junior high, I am a die-hard procrastinator.

I have managed to crochet a few flowers for Christmas presents. Still unsure how to add the backing and fastening so it looks like something worth wearing. Alex starts school in January so I thought we’d give her nursery teacher a brooch as a farewell and thank you. With Jackson taking her place it’ll hardly be a real good bye. I’ve had a letter in advising me that Jackson’s first day of nursery is on my birthday! How lovely. He’s already been in for a trial run. He LOVED it. Getting him to go home will be the problem, I think.
It must be nice for him to be around so many other boys. I took some pictures of the kids today. I think they turned out alright.
What will I do without all the chaos that follows Alex and Jackson around? Betty and I will wallow in the peace and tranquillity!
those dilapidated ponchos
October 17, 2006
Here are the ponchos that I have been referring to in previous posts. You remember, the ones I whipped up before I really knew what I was doing. And, although I think they’re awesome, they’re falling apart. I didn’t know how to fasten off yet so I did the best I could…
